How would you pitch to the biz to make your favorite book into a movie?

I love the idea of turning my favorite books into movie or series, and they're too many to mention, I love watching films, movies and series alike, korean dramas and American series, but when I get to see those books actually come to life in big screen, I always get disappointed. I mean, I am not hard to please, I even like The Host, Carrie and The Hunger Games movies after all. I understand that the whole book can't be fit in a 2 hr movie, so I wasn't expecting that, I just wanted to at least get the characters right. The hair and eye colors, the mannerisms, and the expressions. Characters are one of the aspects that can make or break a book for me, so it does for a movie adaptation too .
No matter how many times I get disappointed, I still don't get tired of the idea of turning my favorite books into a movie or series. I mean, just look at The Mortal Instruments, the movie was kind of Okay for me, I love Simon Lewis, but a lot of people was disappointed with it, and then, all of a sudden a series is underway, although I am a little bit disappointed because they didn't retain the old Simon, I am still excited! The new characters are all amazing! Oh my Gosh,! **Drools all over the place**
How about you?

I agree; when the movie is as good as the book, it's totally worth it! It bothers me though when some movies delete awesome scenes from the books. It's even worse when movies add details! New Bloglovin' follower! :)
ReplyDeleteEvery readers rant problem.. :) thanks for visiting my blog.. Followed you back as well..keep in touch.. :)
DeleteI agree! I don't understand how some movies get the characters COMPLETELY wrong! As long as they get most of it right, I'm generally pretty happy. New Twitter follower :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my F&F!

DeleteFollowed on GFC, thank you for commenting on my post!
ReplyDeleteThank you Alex! :) and you're welcome.. :)
DeleteI feel that they could at least get the character's look correct. Just dye hair or put in contacts. That's what really bothered me with Divergent. Tris had brown hair and eyes. It's really annoying. Thanks for visiting my blog! New follower!
ReplyDeleteYes! I wonder what was so hard with dyeing hair and wearing contacts... :(
DeleteYou're welcome Lizzie.. keep in touch.. :)
I think that TV shows are better for books, because it can go so much more in depth than a movie can.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my FF!
Agree! Mortal Instrument will be a series soon.. I hope it will turn out ok.. The dome by Stephen King is pretty decent.. :)
DeleteI agree -- it can be very disappointing when movie makers don't do justice to a book. When they get it mostly right, though, it can be a great experience to watch the film!
ReplyDeleteOne book that has yet to be turned into a satisfactory movie for me is "Jane Eyre". I don't like any of the film versions (and one miniseries) I've seen. I must admit I haven't seen the 2011 movie in its entirety, but I HAVE seen a trailer for one part of the movie, and really didn't like it. The problem is that they just don't get Jane's character right. She's a feminist, and none of these versions have really captured that. Instead, they have focused more on Mr. Rochester. Maybe one day they'll get it right.....lol.
From what I've heard, the first Mortal Instruments movie was pretty satisfactory. I have yet to read the books.....I'm way behind!
I'm now following your blog with GFC and Bloglovin. Thanks for commenting on my FF post, and following me as well!! : )
First time I heard of Jane Eyre.. :( we just have to keep believing that a decent movie adaptation will be out soon..:)

I try to go into movie adaptations of books with lower expectations, so that I can try to enjoy it as its own thing. Doesn't always work though! ;-) I usually don't sweat the small details - it bugs me more when things that are the heart of the story are skipped or ruined.
ReplyDeletehaving lease expectation has been our self defense against disappointment.. Works everytime.. haha... :)
DeleteTotally agree with your point! I mean I would still watch the movie even though I am disappointed but I wouldn't pitch in to make the movie of it cause hair, eye color everything matters! Old follower.
ReplyDeletehere's my FF
Yes..:( agree.. Really hope they make an effort in picking up an character...
